Pinterest Challenge April: Watermelon Soldiers

My kids love watermelon, I love watermelon, seriously what kind of weirdo doesn’t like watermelon? (You know who you are!) I really hate dislike the mess it makes though. It gets all sticky all over your hands and face, and if it’s really good watermelon it also runs down your chin and all over your shirt. And to top it all off it actually stains too! For years I have been dicing it into little cubes for the kids to eat out of a bowl with a fork, but recently I saw another idea on Pinterest that cuts back on the extra dishes. Watermelon cut into strips, or soldiers as we call them in my family.

Lay a flat side of the watermelon down on the cutting board and cut into 1 inch slices, keeping the slices upright. Rotate the cutting board 90 degrees and cut again into 1 inch slices, leaving you with 1 inch cubes. Pull apart and nicely display your watermelon soldiers. Fun to eat and a fraction of the mess :)

***It doesn’t even have to be about Pinterest per se. I mean, we were all already out there on the Internet researching stuff and looking up fun ideas before Pinterest existed. Then Pinterest came along and provided an awesome and easy way to organize all the time we waste surfing the Web into one tidy little package. So now, we go and ‘Pin’ all these amazing ideas on Pinterest, but how many do we actually follow through on? My challenge is to follow through with and document at least 1 each month (baby steps, right?)***
