Pinterest Challenge January: Hot Dog Spaghetti…yum

Fun Food for Kids: Hot Dog Spaghetti

For me this idea goes all the way back to the beginning of Pinterest, it was for sure one of the first things I ever pinned. Well, I finally got around to trying it this week and the kids LOVED it! I told them I was making “hot buttered squid” and everyone got all worked up about it and refused to eat it. Needless to say they were pretty happy when they saw it was a dish that combined 2 of their favourite foods; pasta and hot dogs. (I’m having flashes of Big Bang Theory here…wasn’t this Sheldon’s favourite dish??)

It’s as easy as it looks:

  1. Cut hot dogs into bit sized pieces
  2. Poke hot dogs with spaghetti noodles
  3. Boil according to pasta package directions
  4. Season as desired

I didn’t want to use a red sauce on it because it would hide the food and I figured no sauce would be pretty bland so I simply buttered the noodles and sprinkled it with lots of Parmesan cheese. The monsters ate every last bite and were disappointed there wasn’t more. A winner for Friday Family Fun Nights!

It was a little (messy) tricky to eat, but they worked it out :)

***It doesn’t even have to be about Pinterest per se. I mean, we were all already out there on the Internet researching stuff and looking up fun ideas before Pinterest existed. Then Pinterest came along and provided an awesome and easy way to organize all the time we waste surfing the Web into one tidy little package. So now, we go and ‘Pin’ all these amazing ideas on Pinterest, but how many do we actually follow through on? My challenge is to follow through with and document at least 1 each month (baby steps, right?)***

Muffin Tin Meals: Throwback Thursday

A little throwback to 6 months ago when Miss Monster had her very first Muffin tin Meal. I don’t know how it’s possible that she made it to 21 months without having had a Muffin Tin Meal! Just like the rest of my monsters before her, she ate every bite. You just can’t lose with a lunch that feels like a snack. I guess it’s time I invest in a 3rd muffin tin :)

2015 Bucket List

I spent the first 2 weeks of the year deciding whether I was going to resolve to give up on my blogging or reinvest myself. I have too much social media in my life. I’ve had a bad habit lately of starting a project (social media or otherwise) and either losing my vision, my momentum, my interest, or all of the above.

In the end I decided that instead of completely canning everything I would do a massive cut back and fully invest myself in this blog. This project has the greatest connection to my life and what is most important to me. I deleted my other blogging projects, deleted my Twitter accounts and reduced to just this blog, my Facebook account (which is private) and my Instagram account (which there was never a chance I was getting rid of, haha!).

To start the year off I completed my first ever bucket list. I’m not quite up to the task yet of laying out everything I would like to accomplish before I cease to exist, so I started with a bucket list for this year. I tried to get a good mix of things that will be easy to accomplish and things that will be more challenging, as well as things that are just for me and things that are for my family.

Here’s to a new year and accomplishing goals!

Favourite Christmas Songs

Much like the rest of my musical library my Christmas music is quite an eclectic collection, haha. I have over 5 hours of Christmas music, and strangely I’m always looking for more! I recently posted to Facebook asking my friends to share their favourite Christmas tunes and I got some great songs/artists that I didn’t know about. I also promised to share my favourites so I tried to come up with a top 10, but there were just too many songs that I love, so I’ve split my list into classic Christmas favourites and modern Christmas favourites and I manged to get it down to a top 7 or 8 of each. I actually googled some of the songs to make sure I had my facts right and I was totally surprised to find that Bruce Springsteen and Madonna weren’t the originals on their songs. I always thought they had written them! And I was shocked to find that Britney Spears actually wrote Santa Can You Hear Me (not really a Britney fan, but I love this song!). So here they are for your listening enjoyment :)

Classic Christmas Favourites (though not necessarily preformed by the classics :)

  • Christmas In Killarney – Bing Crosby or Irish Rovers
  • Santa Baby – Madonna
  • Baby It’s Cold Outside – Jessica Simpson
  • I’ll Be Home For Christmas – Bing Crosby
  • Merry Christmas Baby – Bruce Springsteen
  • Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas – Frank Sinatra
  • White Christmas – Michael Buble & Shania Twian
  • Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer – Gene Autry

Modern Christmas Favourites

  • The 12 Days Of Christmas – Straight No Chaser
  • Santa Can You Hear Me – Britney Spears
  • I Won’t Be Home For Christmas – Blink182
  • My Grown Up Christmas List – Kelly Clarkson
  • All I Want For Christmas Is You – Mariah Carey
  • I Want An Alien For Christmas – Fountains of Wayne
  • Green Christmas – Barenaked Ladies

These lists are in no particular order, but I have to say my top 2 songs overall would be Santa Baby by Madonna and The 12 Days of Christmas by Straight No Chaser followed by anything by Bing Crosby. What are your favourite Christmas songs? Please post your favourites (with the artist you prefer), I’d love to check them out!

Halloween Songs for Kids

Back in July my Middle Monster stumbled across this Halloween song on YouTube and has been singing it (out of season) ever since. Now that the month of Halloween is here I’ve been trying to build the Monsters a playlist of Halloween songs on YouTube that I can put up on the AppleTV for them, but I’m having a hard time finding content. Am I missing something? Are there not tonnes of Halloween songs out there? I even resorted to throwing in a few adult songs that are Halloween themed (ie. Thriller, Ghosts N Stuff, etc.) and a bunch of Halloween light shows to the beat of popular songs.PLEASE tell me any of your Halloween favourites that I am missing!!

Here is a link to my playlist if you’d like to check it out:
